  • On July 1, 1941 the ten second "America Runs On Bulova Time" started the television commercial's slow climb to eventually become the king of voiceover.

Today, the marketplace has broadened and diversified but there are only five distinct categories of voiceover that make up about 85% of the New York City market. And any New York Actor looking to pursue voiceover needs to understand this market.

In this lecture and Q&A voice casting director Hugh P. Klitzke will talk about those five categories; their differences and similarities, provide script examples, play audio of each, talk about casting process and yes, even talk about money.

  • VO4TA: Commercial Critique Workshop

Like many kinds of acting, voiceover just isn’t learned well in a vacuum.  One goal of this class is to address this problem.

The Voiceover for the Actor Commercial Critique Workshop format is: you receive 5 (five) pieces of commercial copy in advance. You first pick from those five any one piece to read and record in the booth with critique, by me and also by the group. (I believe all of us are always smarter than any one of us).

Then you also bring a piece of copy OF YOUR CHOICE to read, record and be critiqued.

This is so you are reading something that everyone in the room is familiar with and you also work with something of your own choosing.  (Or you may use another of the five sent in advance).

Every time this class is offered, the advance copy changes.  This is to keep the conversation about the work as current as possible.

At the conclusion of the class, audio files of your work will be sent to you.

    Monday June 12th, 2017. 7 to 9 PM. $75.00

Eight (8) registrants only. At Pomann Sound.

To apply or if you have any questions:

    Email VO4TA@voiceoverfortheactor.com or call (646)621-4828.

HUGH KLITZKE'S COMMERCIAL VOICEOVER BEGINNER CRITIQUE

    May 25th, 2017 6:30 PM

In the words of some voiceover professionals, the job of an actor is auditioning, not booking. While this statement seems counter-intuitive, a booking is only secured from a great audition. Auditioning is a skill that requires delivering a great performance in sometimes not-so-great circumstances at all times. And a performer must also be aware of the expectations and etiquette required.

In this workshop, you will experience a voiceover audition simulation. Our instructor Hugh Klitzke will observe and offer feedback on each attendee's audition; critiquing their reads and interactions with the director/engineer as well as their comportment and demeanor.

This workshop will end at 8:30 p.m.
